Rest, Restore, Reboot
When I was born, the doctor held me up to show my young dad, and she said, “She’s a good baby, but she’s lazy.” I was a month late, so clearly I wasn’t too sure about my decision to come back to planet earth so soon.
According to the Past Life Regression work I did with Brian Weiss, MD, I’d just died in Auschwitz, so who can blame me, right? But I’d made a soul agreement with my darling dead husband, Dan. He promised that we would have a calm, restful, and uneventful life. He lied. More on that in my book: “Love From Both Sides – A True Story of Soul Survival and Reincarnation.”
Back to being labeled as “lazy.” I just took off a week in Cayucos and did nothing. See the picture above, all I did was walk and do yoga. I planned to do a lot, but I did nothing. And I didn’t feel guilty at all, because I needed the downtime to rest, restore, and reboot so I could be ready to help my clients reprogram their stressed-out, hyper-busy brains.
How about you? Do you ever give yourself downtime? A time to rest, restore, and reboot your own go-go, “got to get it done by deadline” system?
Most people feel guilty when they take time off for themselves—especially wives, mothers, and caretakers of every kind. However, doing nothing is a powerful, loving act of self-care. It’s a conscious choice to disconnect, pull the plug on obligations, and let your mind and body be still, to heal and enjoy being alive.
If you feel guilty about taking time for yourself, the latest neuroscience shows how crucial it is for your body and brain to rest for optimal cognitive function. If you constantly push yourself, or are addicted to your phone, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc., your nervous system will burn out, and that results in anxiety, panic disorders, and disease.
Maintenance on your body and brain is just as crucial as maintenance on your car. Unfortunately, there’s no little dashboard wrench that lights up and says, “Change your life now, or you’ll be sorry!”
If you can allow yourself to be still, to meditate however briefly, that’s when your brain engages in a process called “the default mode network.” This network consolidates memories, problems solves, and fosters creativity. So, when you’re idle and being lazy, your most brilliant ideas can pop into your head, and that will make you happy!
Hypnotherapy, Mindful Cognitive Behavior Therapy can help you change your beliefs about yourself and the need to prove your worth by working yourself to death. CBM can help you understand and change your thought patterns, destructive behaviors, and beliefs that sabotage your happiness. If you want to change the “Would-of, could-of, should-of” view of your life, now’s the time to do it! The Point of Power is in the Present – there is no other rule!
Want another fun neuroscience discovery? Turns out, lazy people are often the smartest. Why? Because they find the most efficient, least effortful way to accomplish a task. Instead of brute-forcing a problem, they’ll step back, observe, and come up with a clever shortcut. This isn’t about avoiding work, it’s about working smarter, not harder; a hallmark of intelligent design.
Want to be happy? Rest. Happiness doesn’t come from getting more stuff, achieving more, or constantly being productive. True happiness can be found in the simple act of letting go and allowing yourself to recharge, renew, and reboot.
Hypnotherapy, aligned with Mindful Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Past-Life Regression, can help you release anxiety, heal depression, and cultivate contentment. By changing your mindset, you can change your life.
After 24 years of helping my clients heal, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful these integrative techniques can be. It’s not just one thing, but taking the first step towards prioritizing and honoring your own needs. When you allow yourself to be “lazy,” to rest, restore, and renew, you’re not just taking a break; you’re investing in your mental clarity, your physical health, and your capacity to thrive.
So, the next time you feel the urge to do nothing, please embrace it and do it! Because it’s not being lazy at all. It’s your own brilliant, strategic subconscious mind that wants to lead you to greater happiness and a renewed sense of purpose!
Be lazy, and get happy!
