Hack Your Brain Into Happiness
If your happiness set point is set to below zero, you can hack your brain to happiness. You can change your own trauma-damaged set point with hypnotherapy, cognitive behavior modification, awareness therapy, and past-life regression.
As most of my clients are aware, I employ various techniques to assist individuals in their healing process. Traditional talk therapy, which I did for twelve years, makes people dig up old grievances and then blame parents, siblings, or circumstances without giving them the tools to heal.
That’s why I use scientifically proven techniques to help people change the structure of their brains.
I suggest books that might help. First up: Byron Katie’s “Loving What Is.” It’s brain science clothed in a cozy pillow of questioning your negative beliefs and thoughts. “Is it true?” You learn how to get to: “No! It’s not true!”
Next up: “Shawn Achor’s “The Happiness Advantage.” In his research, he discovered that a positive mindset can enhance creativity, productivity, and overall happiness. Shawn learned that happiness fuels success, not the other way around. That change must start with a person’s willingness to engage in brain exercises, just like those I provide to clients during their first session.
I teach clients to flip a negative thought (poopy-brain) into a positive thought (puppy-brain). I picked that technique up from USC’s Antonio Damasio, PhD. He proves that feelings are not just emotions; they’re brain and body responses. You can train your brain to feel joyful by focusing on the good things in your life now. “Is everything okay in 15 seconds? If so, choose to be thankful.”
This is how cognitive behavior modification can help you hack your happiness set-point. You can learn to identify and target negative thought patterns, replacing them with more helpful beliefs, thoughts, and actions. Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz’s book, “The Mind and the Brain, Neuroplasticity and Force of Human Will,” shows how obsessive-compulsive disorder, OCD, depression, and phobias can be healed and proves it all with FMRI brain scans. Scientific proof that Mindfulness and Awareness can rewire your brain.
Hypnotherapy can help you drop into your subconscious mind and find out where childhood traumas might be hidden from your conscious mind. It allows people to release deep-seated fears and misconceptions foisted on young minds by antiquated religions that demonize sex, homosexuality, dancing, or just having fun. In Sonja Lyubomirsky’s “The How of Happiness,” she provides numerous actionable steps that can be transformed into long-lasting habits. Hypnotherapy plants seeds of positive action in the conscious brain. I once had a police detective say, “I can’t stop at Krispy Kreme. It repulses me.” (He went on to lose 40 pounds!)
One of my favorite neurobiologists is Robert Sopolsky, PhD, who teaches at Stanford. His lecture series and his snarky sense of humor make hearing about how out-of-control anger and stress can cause brain and cellular damage seem downright humorous. Why worry?
Ultimately, Past-Life Regression can provide a fresh perspective. When I worked with my teacher, Brian Weiss, MD, I saw my own direct past-life in vivid detail. In that past life, I was a rich, entitled doctor in Berlin. I was married to Jane, my best friend in high school, but in that past life, I was having an illicit affair with a sexy showgirl. That didn’t end well. The blond-bombshell (an ex-psychopath boyfriend) outed me to SS, and I wound up dying in Auschwitz. Past-life regressions help people put things in perspective, because “at least I’m not in Auschwitz today,” is what I say when I hear the news now.
Seriously, it can help people identify and release blockages from deep within their psyche. It serves as a powerful catalyst for healing emotional challenges. Regression therapy helps clients adjust their happiness set point by resolving unresolved traumas from this lifetime or a past lifetime. According to physics, all time is simultaneous.
Learn how to harness the power of your mind. Collectively, these techniques can do more than traditional talk therapy by empowering you to live in the present moment. They equip you with scientifically proven tools to consciously and cognitively direct your thoughts and emotions, and change your brain.
Happiness isn’t a distant dream; it’s a choice. By using hypnotherapy, cognitive behavior modification, and past life regression, you can take charge of your own emotional life. You can live with more joy and find your purpose, something that old-fashioned talking therapy may never achieve.
